GEORGIA (WALB) – Severe thunderstorms have prompted school closures and schedule changes across South Georgia on Monday, March 16.
Below is a list of affected schools and districts. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
Affected schools and districts
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
- The Bainbridge and Tifton locations will be closed until 12:00 p.m. Monday, March 16.
Albany Beauty Academy
- School will be closed on Monday, March 16.
Albany State University
- ALL in person classes will operate virtually until 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 16. All in-person events are canceled. RAM Rush transportation will begin operations at 1:00 p.m.
Albany Technical College
- Albany Tech will open at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16 due to severe weather.
Atkinson County Schools
- Atkinson County Schools will be closed on Monday, March 16. This closure also includes all after-school activities, including athletic practices and games.
Baker County
- Baker County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16.
Ben Hill County
- Ben Hill County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, March 17.
Berrien County
- Berrien County Schools will be closed on Monday, March 16 and will resume on Tuesday, March 17.
Clay County
- The Clay County School District in Fort Gaines GA will be closed due to inclement weather on Monday, March 16.
Coffee County Schools
- Coffee County Schools will be closed on Monday, March 16.
Colquitt County
- Colquitt County Schools and District Offices will be closed Monday, March 16 due to severe weather.
Cook County
- Cook County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16 and Tuesday for Teacher in Service Day, March 17. They will reopen on Wednesday, March 18.
Crisp County
- Crisp County Schools will be closed on Monday, March 16.
- Crisp Academy will be closed on Monday, March 16.
Dougherty County
- Dougherty County Schools and offices will be closed Monday, March 16. They will reopen on Tuesday, March 17.
- Deerfield Windsor will be closed Monday, March 16.
- Sherwood Christian Academy will be closed Monday, March 16.
Decatur County
- Decatur County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16, and will return to normal operations on Tuesday, March 17.
Dooly County
- Dooly County Schools will be closed on Monday, March 16 along with all extracurricular activities.
Grady County
- Grady County Schools will be closed Monday morning, and will reopen on Tuesday, March 17.
Lee County
- All Lee County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16.
- Rising Stars Christian Academy will be closed Monday, March 16
Lowndes County
- Valwood will be closed on Monday, March 16.
Mitchell County
- All schools will be closed and will reopen Tuesday, March 17.
- Westwood Schools will be closed.
- Baconton Community Charter School will be closed.
Miller County
- Miller County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16. Faculty and Staff should report to work at 10:00 a.m.
New Beginning Early Learning Academy
- Both campuses on North Monroe and West Garden Campus will be closed Monday, March 16.
PCOM South Georgia Campus
- Campus will open at 12 noon. Morning lectures will be changed to the afternoon. Please see student schedule changes in Blackboard.
Randolph County
- Randolph County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16, and will reopen Tuesday, March 17.
Seminole County
- Seminole County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16. Faculty and staff will report at 10 a.m.
Schley County
- Schley County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16.
Southern Regional Technical College
- All Southern Regional Technical College campuses will be closed Monday, March 16, will reopen on Tuesday, March 17.
Sumter County
- Furlow Charter School will be closed Monday, March 16 along with all extracurricular activities.
- Georgia Southwestern University will open at 12 noon on Monday, March 16.
Terrell County
- Terrell County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16. Normal school operations will resume on Tuesday, March 17
- Terrell Academy will be closed Monday, March 16.
Thomas County
- Due to threat of severe weather, Thomas County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16.
- Brookswood Schools will be closed Monday, March 16.
- Thomasville City Schools will be closed Monday, March 16.
Tift County
- Tift County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16. All athletic and extracurricular activities are canceled.
Turner County
- The Turner County School System will be closed tomorrow, Monday, March 16, 2026, for all students and staff. All after-school, athletic, and extracurricular activities are also canceled.
Worth County
- Worth County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16.
