Snow and ice force East Tennessee schools to close on March 17

Winter lingers as snow falls in Knoxville, East Tennessee

Quick, heavy snowfall rolled into East Tennessee on March 16, and is expected to continue into the evening.

A late-winter snowstorm that turned our weather from a sunny 70 degrees into a snowstorm in 24 hours has forced the closure of East Tennessee schools on March 17.

Many schools are already closed for spring break.

The school districts cited snow, icy roads and even power issues as reasons for closing.
