I-TEAM: Mystikal enters guilty plea to rape charges in court

GONZALES, La. (WAFB) – Rapper Mystikal, also known as Michael Tyler, entered a guilty plea to rape charges in an Ascension Parish courtroom Tuesday afternoon.
Tyler pled guilty to third-degree rape charges and faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. A judge ordered a presentence investigation.
Mystikal was arrested in 2022 on rape and domestic abuse charges. He entered a not guilty plea that same year to those charges.
In 2022, Ascension Parish deputies told WAFB just before midnight on Saturday, July 30, 2022, deputies responded to a hospital in the area in reference to a sexual assault.
“Once we got there, we talked to the victim, who had some very visible injuries on her body, and she was very distraught,” said Donovan Jackson, spokesman for the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. “She talked with us, we interviewed her, and she was able to identify who the suspect was. And in this case, it was Michael Tyler, also known as Mystikal.”
Deputies arrested Tyler at his Prairieville home. He has been held without bond since 2022.
Tyler faced similar charges back in 2004 for sexually assaulting his hairstylist. He spent six years behind bars and became a registered sex offender.
