Trigger warning for all the vintage Bob Mackie heads out there. At Vanity Fair’s Oscars after-party on Sunday, Entertainment Tonight asked Alix Earle to share a “secret,” and she revealed she had to do a bit of slapdash surgery on her dress to keep it from falling apart. Earle wore a red beaded halter gown from Mackie’s fall-winter 2001 collection to the event, according to Tab Vintage, the L.A.-based vintage purveyor that’s become a favorite among celebrities. Earle told ET some of the beading on the dress began unraveling right before she was about to hit the red carpet.
“So I was like, Okay, I’ll just pull it, and then all the beads started flying off,” she said. “I was like, ‘Someone, I need a knife!’” Apparently she got her knife and “just sliced it a bit” before continuing on with her evening.
The good news is it seemed like it worked: By the time she was taking interviews, the dress looked just fine. Earle did not seem too stressed about her Pitt-style dress procedure — she told ET she was hoping to “meet someone” at Sunday night’s party. Just be careful, boys. She’s got a knife.
