Morgan Gibbs-White will leave Nottingham Forest if they are relegated and deserves to play for a top side, says ex-team-mate Jack Colback.
The English midfielder has been linked with a summer move to Manchester United in recent weeks. Gibbs-White arrived at the City Ground in 2022 in a then club-record deal totalling a potential £42.5million and has since become a talismanic figure.
The midfield dynamo made his England debut in 2024 and has inevitably caught the eye of other Premier League sides. Tottenham failed with a bid for Gibbs-White last summer after a supposed £60m release clause was triggered, prompting fury from owner Evangelos Marinakis. The player penned a three-year extension amid the chaos.

However, United have been linked with Gibbs-White and one of the 26-year-old’s former Forest team-mates, Colback, has perhaps offered them some words of encouragement.
Asked to name the best player he has ever played with on In The Mixer, brought to you by Sky Bet, Colback said: “I would say Morgan Gibbs-White. He could play for a top team.
“I think if he adds goals and assists, I know he’s been scoring a bit more recently and that was probably the one criticism of him. But technically and what he can do in training. Just top.”

Then questioned if Gibbs-White will stay at Forest beyond this season, Colback added: “It depends on Marinakis! But yeah, if they stay up that is a big factor. But if they go down, he’s leaving, of course.
“It’s a hard one because I think he probably should have left already. But for him, he might like the club, like where he lives. It’s not just about moving to a bigger club, but time will tell.”
Colback admitted he did have a handful of run-ins with Forest owner Marinakis, saying: “I probably met him two or three times. Yeah [he was terrifying]. My agent warned me.
“When I first went to Forest on loan, we came down for a meeting as normal but one of the Greek staff walked in and was like, ‘You’re gonna speak to the owner.’
“The manager didn’t know anything. We were just trying to prep for the game. All of a sudden, Marinakis comes on the big screen on a video call. Just this big, Greek man.
“He was basically like, ‘Come on, start winning games, or there’ll be trouble.’ That type of thing. I’d never seen that before. The manager didn’t even know about it. But for all the negatives, I would say I do think he genuinely cares about the club and that’s where it comes from.
“In terms of what he’s done for Nottingham Forest, it’s amazing. When I went there, they were mid-table, floating in the Championship and he’s got them into Europe. He’s done it his way.”
