Devin Booker surprises BYU men’s basketball team with custom Book 2s

Devin Booker surprised the BYU men’s basketball team with a custom version of his Nike Book 2 shoes ahead of the Big 12 Tournament.

The gifted shoes are outfitted with the Cougars’ royal blue alongside a silver Nike swoosh and the program’s logo on the heel.

“Shout out Book,” BYU star small forward AJ Dybantsa said. “Book 2 PEs, fire. I knew that I was going to wear them.”

Dybantsa wore the shoes during the Cougars’ quarterfinal win over Kansas State on March 10. The top NBA prospect finished with 40 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the process.

Booker donned the “BYU” PE colorway himself while dropping 34 points, six rebounds and three assists in a 116-104 loss to the Timberwolves on Tuesday.

BYU head coach Kevin Young was an assistant and associate head coach for the Suns from 2020-2024 before taking over the college program.

Booker spoke highly of Young when he was being viewed as a potential head coach candidate for the team after the 2022-23 season, and revealed that the two had a close relationship when the coach was hired by BYU in 2024.

The collaboration is the latest for Booker when it comes to customizing his shoe for a collegiate basketball team. BYU joins Kentucky, USC, Michigan State, Arkansas, Duke and Arizona on the list of programs with their own versions of the Book 2.

Since the Book 2s became available on Jan. 2, the Suns star has also donned other versions such as the “All-Star Warning Label” and “The Valley” PE shoes while on the court this season.
