Sardinia, Ikea opens first shop in the region

Over 15 thousand square metres of floor space, 9.6 thousand products, 950 square metres dedicated to food and 150 co-workers. These are the numbers of the first Ikea store in Sardinia inaugurated in Elmas, inside the Fass Shopping Centre. A structure distributed over two floors in which 3.8 thousand square metres of showroom space narrate multiple ways of living. Inside there is also a 2.6 thousand square metre market hall with 9.6 thousand products.

The opening of the new store marks “an important stage in the journey already started by Ikea on the island in 2016 with the opening of the first Viale Marconi pick-up point, which has welcomed more than 5 million visitors over the past 10 years”. The shop employs 150 co-workers, including 90 new recruits who join the 60 already present coming from the Viale Marconi site or returning from other shops in Italia. In addition, and the company emphasises this, a 62% composition of women in the leadership group. Sustainability also finds ample space in this path, with dedicated services such as “Riporta e Rivendi” and the “Angolo della Circolarità”, “designed to give products a second life and promote a more responsible consumption model”.

“This opening, besides being a significant milestone for Ikea Italia, also represents a moment of great personal emotion for me, marking the first inauguration since my appointment in the country,” emphasises Alpaslan Deliloglu, CEO of Ikea Italia. “The new shop is an important step in Ikea’s growth strategy in Italia. Sardinia is a key territory for us, which consolidates our development path and allows us to strengthen an increasingly widespread presence’.

On the occasion of the inauguration, the launch of two social projects in Cagliari together with the Domus de Luna Foundation: the donation of furniture for a property confiscated from organised crime, which will become a reception space for families and young people in difficulty, and for a day centre for young people with fragility. Also in Sardinia, Ikea has already supported other projects in the past with its furniture together with the Elda Mazzocchi Scarzella Association and the Associazione Salesiani per il Sociale.

“This store was born out of a shared expectation.
