Page (24-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) returns to welterweight for a fight in his backyard. “Venom’s” first four appearances have been split between 170 and 185 pounds. After a debut win over Kevin Holland, Page dropped a decision to Ian Machado Garry. He then went up to middleweight, where he picked up a pair of wins over Shara Magomedov and Jared Cannonier.

Patterson (14-2-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), a Dana White’s Contender Series product, dropped his UFC debut in quick fashion to Yanal Ashmouz. However, the Englishman has been a wrecking ball since, winning four consecutive fights in the first round, stopping Yohan Lainesse, Kiefer Crosbie, Danny Barlow and Trey Waters.

Serving as a strange booking at welterweight is a matchup between Michael Page and Sam Patterson.

Aside from these two being former training partners, this matchup makes no sense for either man in this equation.
Page, who arguably should have a win over Ian Garry, deserves fun fights that make sense for his career. Whereas Patterson, who is the younger product, is being given a step-up spot that, even in victory, will be hard to look good in given Page’s style.
Although you can make an argument for either fight catching the other out of position, I suspect we get a staring contest between two former sparring partners that favors Page.
