PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Alejandro Tosti’s caddie needs a wife. Max McGreevy’s needs to get better at fantasy football. And Neal Shipley better hope he doesn’t run into any Michigan Wolverine fans at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course.
Those three golfers came up with some of the best caddie bibs for the Valspar Championship, which since 2021 has allowed players to get creative with their name on their caddie bibs. Some are playful such as Tosti, a 29-year-old Argentine, saying, “Need a wife,” or McGreevy, that he stinks at fantasy football and finished last while others are simply promoting their social media handle or in the case of Zach Bachou listed his caddie’s Venmo.
There are nicknames such as Ben Griffin’s “Benny Booms,” “Soup” for Brian Campbell, “Moose” for Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, “Koala” for Karl Vilips, and “Beef” for Frankie Capan III. Lots of kids names incorporated such as Justin Thomas’s caddie wearing Molly’s Dad and Aaron Rai going with Dalvir Shukla, his mom’s name, and Sahith Theegala with some love for his future better half: “Juju’s fiance.”
Who knew that Danny Willett owned a horse named RedBud Sixteen or that Jimmy Stanger started a foundation, Birdies for Hope, to build churches around the world? But Shipley, who played for Ohio State in 2023-24, went for blood with “OSU 27-Mich 9,” the score of The Game in November. Tough look for McGreevy with “Last@fntsy fb” and we wish Tosti’s caddie all the best with “I need a wife.”
