MPs vote on defending UK interests would be ‘unprecedented’, Reed says as Iran war enters fourth week

Housing secretary facing questions as Iran war enters fourth weekpublished at 08:59 GMT
Housing Secretary Steve Reed is in the hot seat for this
morning’s episode of Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.
This week, Reed announced £20m in funding for 40 communities
in England under the new Pride in Place programme, which he says will help
areas “held back the most under the Conservatives”.
But it has been a busy time for the government. The war
in Iran is now in its fourth week, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer has been
dealing with US President Donald Trump, who has been critical of both Starmer
and America’s Nato allies.
On Friday, the UK agreed to let the US use British military
bases to strike Iranian sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz.
Also on the programme this morning, we have Reed’s opposite
number in the Conservative Party James Cleverly. We will also be showing Laura’s
interviews with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and her conversation with
the lawyer of a man who took his own life after falling in love with a chat
bot.
We won’t be providing regular text updates on this page this
morning, but the whole programme is being streamed live above.
