With a theme of “Out of the Dugout, Into the Light,” this event brings more than 1,000 people together each year in an “expression of shared faith and purpose in God,” according to organizers.

Who is Darryl Strawberry?

Growing up in a difficult home environment, Strawberry found refuge in baseball.

He went on to become an MLB superstar and fan favorite, hitting 335 home runs during his 17-year career with the New York Mets and New York Yankees, according to organizers.

Behind the scenes, however, Strawberry battled addition and personal turmoil. His search for healing, organizers say, ultimately led him to faith.

“Darryl Strawberry’s story is one of the most powerful redemption stories you’ll ever hear,” Ryan Leonard, who co-chairs the Battle Creek Prayer Breakfast with his wife, Esther, said. “This is a story of a man who had fame and success, lost nearly everything, and found a new life through faith in Christ.”

Strawberry’s journey through struggle, addiction and faith has inspired millions, according to organizers. He’s published several books, including “Another Life,” “Turn Your Season Around,” and “Straw: Finding My Way.”

Beyond writing and speaking, Strawberry is dedicated to helping others.

With his wife, Tracy, the MLB legend leads the Darryl Strawberry Foundation, which provides education, resources and counseling for those in need of support with mental health and addiction, organizers said.
