Charles Barkley gushes over Michigan State’s Tom Izzo: ‘He never backed down’

Tom Izzo is taking Michigan State to the Sweet 16 for the 17th time in 31 years as head coach.

Sir Charles loves himself some Mr. March.

Charles Barkley heaped some heavy praise on Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo following Saturday’s 77-69 win over Louisville in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

“His teams never underachieve,” said Barkley, who’s working as an analyst on CBS, TBS and TNT for the Tournament. “It’s actually a beautiful thing to watch. … They play a certain way, and you have to play his way.

“He’s one of the few coaches that can still yell at his players. … If you don’t want to be coached, you probably shouldn’t come to Michigan State. I love the fact that he never backed down.”
