‘Wonder Man’ Renewed For Season 2 On Disney+

Marvel has ordered more Wonder Man. The series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the titular role has official been renewed for Season 2 on Disney+.

Abdul-Mateen II will return as Simon Williams, and Ben Kingsley is back as Trevor Slattery, Disney confirmed Monday.

Series co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest are also on board for the second season. Guest returns as showrunner and executive producer, while Cretton returns as director and executive producer.

Created by writer Stan Lee and artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby, Wonder Man was introduced to Marvel Comics in 1964 via The Avengers #9.

The Disney+ series follows aspiring actor Simon Williams (Abdul-Mateen), who is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery (Kingsley), an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns that legendary director Von Kovak (Zlatko Buric) is remaking the superhero film Wonder Man. These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry, per the official description.

While Simon is desperately trying to break through in Hollywood as the star of rebooted superhero film, he quietly is developing superpowers of his own. At one point in the trailer, Simon is asked to sign a document by Agent Cleary, played by Arian Moayed in a reprisal of his role from 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, shortly before his secret powers erupt. Cleary is a high-ranking agent from the government agency known as the Department of Damage Control, who’s responsible for dealing with the aftermath of events caused by superpowered individuals, and he quickly labels Simon an “extraordinary threat.”

Season 1 launched with all eight episodes on January 27. No word yet on when the series’ second season might debut.
