Reboot fever has not yet broke at Netflix.
A “13 Going on 30” revival is in the works at Netflix, the company confirmed March 24. The original film’s star, Jennifer Garner, is slated to serve as executive producer, while Emily Bader and Logan Lerman are headlining the cast.
The casting marks a major notch in Bader’s ladder to fame, after starring in Netflix’s “People We Meet on Vacation,” a take on the wildly popular Emily Henry novel, in January. Brett Haley, who served as director on “People We Meet,” is also set to steer the revival.
” ’13 Going on 30′ is one of those rare, perfect films. Funny, emotional, deeply human, with unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Judy Greer,” Haley said in a release. “I’m a longtime fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility. Jennifer Garner being on board as an executive producer, after playing such a big part of what made the original special, is especially meaningful.
“I also couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Emily Bader after ‘People We Meet on Vacation,'” he continued. “She and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are a magical pairing. I feel incredibly lucky to be trusted with something that means so much to so many people.”
The script will be written by Hannah Marks, whose pen is behind such films as “Mark, Mary, & Some Other People” and “After Everything.”
Based on the 2004 rom-com, starring Garner and Mark Ruffalo, the plot details of the reboot remain under wraps. The movie has become a cult classic of the rom-com canon in the years since its premiere. Chronicling Jenna Rink (Garner)’s body-bending ordeal after she wakes up in a 30-year-old’s body, the movie glamorizes the New York City publishing scene and sees the protagonist reckon with growing pains as she falls in love with her middle school sweetheart and fights to be “30, flirty and fabulous.”
