Matt Lauer Seen on Rare Public Outing With Girlfriend Shamin Abas Nearly 9 Years After Scandal

Though Matt Lauer maintains a relatively low profile since being fired from Today in November 2017, he recently stepped out with his girlfriend.

In photos obtained by In Touch, the disgraced news anchor, 68, was spotted on Monday, March 23, with longtime girlfriend Shamin Abas after having dinner in Sag Harbor, New York.

The former journalist was dressed casually in jeans and a jacket with sneakers and a baseball cap. The businesswoman — who is the president of PR and experiential marketing firm Shamin Abas Associates, according to her LinkedIn — was covered up in a heavy winter coat as she walked arm in arm with Lauer.

According to People, the two began dating in 2019 shortly after Lauer and his ex-wife Annette Roque finalized their divorce that same year. Lauer and Roque — who share three children — split after the morning news anchor was accused of sexual assault and fired from his job at Today.

Before he and Abas began officially dating, they had been friends for years.

“They try and stay out of the spotlight but are happy together and not interested in a high-profile life,” a source previously told People. “They are off the radar and low-key. They are enjoying their lives.”

In 2017, former NBC producer Brooke Nevils claimed that Lauer raped her in his hotel room while the two were covering the 2014 Winter Olympics for NBC.

Lauer, who denied the allegations and claimed that their affair was “consensual,” was publicly fired on November 29, 2017.

Since then, Lauer has not returned to the spotlight.
