Dodgers Reveal Goals For Shohei Ohtani’s Final Spring Start

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way player Shohei Ohtani (17) delivers a pitch during a Spring Training workout at Camelback Ranch.
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he hopes starter Shohei Ohtani can last six innings and throw 80 pitches in his start Tuesday.
Ohtani will make his second start of the year against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, which marks the Dodgers’ final game before the beginning of the regular season.

He pitched 4.1 innings in his last outing, striking out four batters and allowing a single hit without letting any runs cross the plate. Despite his lack of competitive starts in 2026, Ohtani has been slowly ramping up and seems to be game ready based on Roberts’ expectation.
While Ohtani could be fit enough to throw the 80 pitches, Roberts put a hard deadline on the right-hander for the regular season. The skipper said Ohtani would not pitch more than seven innings against the Cleveland Guardians in his first start of the regular season next Tuesday.
Ohtan has been a fantastic addition to the Dodgers’ rotation since his return to the mound last year, posting a 2.87 ERA and a FIP less than 2.00 through his 14 starts. He also had solid strikeout numbers, sending 62 batters back to the dugout through 47 innings pitched.
The Dodgers will hope Ohtani can continue to dominate heading into the regular season, as they’re chasing the first three-peat in franchise history in 2026.
