President Donald Trump said this morning that the United States is negotiating with Iran to end the war, declaring that the two sides had two days of “very good and productive conversations” that will continue throughout this week. The announcement stops the clock on a Saturday threat from Trump to “obliterate” Iran’s key power plants if the country continues its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump had earlier given Tehran until Monday evening Eastern time to reopen traffic in the waterway, which handles 20 percent of the world’s oil traffic.
