Judith Light Joins Amazon MGM Studios & Point Grey’s Cameron Diaz & Stephen Merchant Rom-Com
EXCLUSIVE: Cameron Diaz and Stephen Merchant’s untitled romantic comedy has added Emmy winner Judith Light to the cast.
Light joins previously announced Jake Lacy, Josh Segarra, Sherry Cola, Myra Lucretia Taylor, Fabrizio Guido, Lisa Gilroy, and Dustin Ybarra in the Amazon MGM Studios film.
The Merchant- and John Butler-written feature follows a workaholic Brit employed at an upscale New York hotel (Merchant) who needs a wife for appearances. He strikes a deal with a struggling stand-up comic (Diaz) who is desperate for health insurance. Their fake marriage starts as a transaction – but ends in a hilariously unexpected romance.
Pic’s producers are Lee Eisenberg, Merchant, who directs, and Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Josh Fagen. Natalie Sandy will executive produce.
Light’s recent projects include Peter Hedge’s film The Same Storm; Julia for HBO Max; Starz’s Shining Vale; and Searchlight’s The Menu. Additional film credits include The Young Wife and Down Low for FilmNation; Out of My Mind for Disney+; tick, tick…Boom! for Netflix; and Ms. White Light. Series credits include the second season of American Horror Stories; Before for Apple TV+; All’s Fair for Hulu; Impeachment: American Crime Story, Poker Face for Peacock, for which she won the Guest Actress in a Comedy Series Primetime Emmy; and Transparent for Prime Video, for which Light received a Golden Globe nomination and multiple Emmy and Critics Choice nominations. The actress is represented by Gersh and Brillstein.
