Milwaukee Brewers: 3 Players Fans Would Love To See Get Contract Extensions

The Milwaukee Brewers are not really known for giving out long-term contracts. Christian Yelich, of course, got one after he won the NL MVP Award in 2018. Jackson Chourio signed an eight-year contract in 2024 before he even had an at-bat in the Majors. That deal indicated how much faith Milwaukee has/had in their former top prospect, and two club option years at the end of the contract could make a 10-season deal.

For the most part, though, the Brewers trade away their biggest and best stars before they hit free agency. The claim every year is that they just cannot afford them. On the bright side, they typically get back some exceptional prospects in return that contribute to the team right away.

This all being said, there are some young players that fans would love to see stick around longer than the typical years of club control.

1. William Contreras

While he was not originally developed by Milwaukee’s farm system, William Contreras has become one of the most popular players on the team. He had a down year offensive in 2025 hitting .260/.355/.399, but that was because he played through the entire season with a fracture finger.

In 2023 and 2024, his first two seasons with the Brewers, he averaged 20 home runs and 85 RBI a year while hitting over .280 and winning two Silver Sluggers.

He is currently signed one a one-year contract with a club option for 2027, an option fans believed Milwaukee will decline.

They would rather the team sign him to a long-term contract, but the fact of the matter is that the presence of Jeferson Quero in Triple-A makes that unlikely.

Still, fans would love it if Contreras was a Brewer for a long time.

2. Brice Turang

Brewers manager Pat Murphy once said that Brice Turang was going to be the next player that fans would want to see signed to a long-term extension, and he is right!

The Gold Glove second baseman is a rising star in Major League Baseball, evidenced by his presence on Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. He tied the American record four doubles in the tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Last year, Turang had his best offensive season, hitting .288/.359/.435 with 18 home runs, 81 RBI, and 24 stolen bases.

He is not even arbitration eligible until next season and is not scheduled to hit free agency until 2030. Still, Brewers fans would love to see the team avoid the arbitration process with him entirely and lock him up long-term.

3. Sal Frelick

Like Turang, Frelick had his best offensive season in 2025, hitting .288/.351/.405 with 12 home runs, 63 RBI, and 19 stolen bases. Also like Turang, he won a Gold Glove in 2024 and is one of the best defensive players in baseball.

Frelick also is not arbitration eligible until 2027 and won’t hit free agency until 2030. But he embodies playing baseball the way Milwaukee likes to play the game, and he does whatever it takes to help the team.

And he may just be scratching the surface of how good he can be.
