Red Sox Newcomer Caleb Durbin Switches Number On Eve Of Opening Day

Nomar Garciaparra. Nick Punto. Tzu-Wei Lin. Vaughn Grissom.
Caleb Durbin will hope to make similar contributions to that of the former and not… well, all those other guys…
Durbin, who was acquired via trade with the Milwaukee Brewers on Feb. 9, originally selected No. 17 but decided to switch things up and wear No. 5 — with the change being reflected on the organization’s official roster on the eve of Opening Day against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.
Durbin, who wore No. 21 during his time with Milwaukee, will become the 10th player to wear the once-revered number since 2005, joining Punto, Lin, Grissom, Kiké Hernández, Kevin Pillar, Ian Kinsler, Allen Craig, Jonny Gomes, and Rocco Baldelli.
Again, they haven’t exactly saved it for their best…
The Red Sox don’t appear to have any other major changes in that department, though you will see some unfamiliar numbers on newcomers Andruw Monasterio (No. 32), Ryan Watson (No. 56), Johan Oviedo (No. 29), and Ranger Suarez (No. 55).
