Will Smith, the owner of an electric powerboat team and Hollywood actor, visited Angola Thursday to announce that the capital Luanda would be the venue for the E1 championship round in September.
Other E1 owners include the NBA’s LeBron James, seven-time NFL Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and tennis star Rafa Nadal.
Luanda on the Atlantic coast will host the inaugural eight-race championship in southern Africa during the weekend of September 12-13.
Lagos,?Nigeria?also?hosts a race?in October.
In a statement, series creator Alejandro Agag said: “We are thrilled to welcome Luanda… as a new major stop on E1’s global calendar. It is another statement of intent as we continue to grow our?international?audiences.”
It’s wonderful to have Will Smith as a team owner here to support this exciting new race venue and to see the enthusiasm of both he and the people for our unique form of water racing. (Reporting from Alan Baldwin in London and Editing by Andrew Cawthorne).
