Katie Piper’s former boyfriend is set to remain in prison after he was refused parole. Daniel Lynch was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 16 years in May 2009 after he was convicted of arranging the devastating acid attack that left her blind in one eye.
Since then, Daniel has spent his time behind bars, whilst Katie has gone on to become a successful model and TV star. Now, at a hearing of the parole board, Lynch — who was convicted in 2008 of the attack — is believed to have told parole officers himself that he is not ready to be brought back into the community.
He went on to admit the crimes that he has been convicted of for the first time, but later tried to distance himself from what happened.

At the meeting of the parole board on Thursday (March 26), Daniel admitted that he had arranged for Stefan Sylvestre to throw the sulphuric acid on Katie in March 2008. Sylvestre continues to remain on the run for his role in the attack.
Katie, who was reportedly petrified at the prospect of Lynch being released, briefly dated him before the couple split. After ending things, he became increasingly jealous of Piper and tried to cause her life-changing injuries.
In the wake of the attack, Katie was left with serious wounds and is now living with permanent scarring. She has also had to undergo hundreds of rounds of surgery in order to repair her face and her eyesight.

Documents released by the parole board said that Lynch had also confessed to subjecting Katie to a “terrifying ordeal”, having assaulted and raped her during the course of their relationship. In its opinion outlining their decision, the board believed that the attack was “clearly an act of revenge”.
The decision read: “The panel noted that Mr Lynch had spent a little over 18 years in prison and that he had undertaken some work to address his risk factors but that there remained a need for him to complete more work. The panel concluded that Mr Lynch does not yet have the necessary controls to manage his emotions and direct his thinking skills in relationships.
“Mr Lynch has accepted that he is not yet ready to be released. After considering the circumstances of his offending, the progress made while in custody and the evidence presented at the hearing, the panel was not satisfied that release at this point would be safe for the protection of the public.”

Lynch had also asked to be transferred to an open prison as a result of the decision made by the parole board. However, this was also rejected by the panel who believed that he needed to undergo further rehabilitation for his offences.
This was not the first time that Lynch was convicted of maiming people, after he had served another conviction for pouring scalding hot water over a man. The board ruled that he will be eligible for another parole review “in due course”.
