John Cena has confirmed he will be making an unexpected return to the WWE universe as he will be hosting WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
The wrestling superstar retired from the ring on 13 December 2025 after a year-long farewell tour.
He lost in his final match to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, DC.
Cena announced the exciting news to his fans on social media, sharing: “Since retirement, my ‘road’ has looked a little different… but now I can officially say I’m headed to WrestleMania!!!! See you in Las Vegas!”
In a video he added: “Ah retired life in the sun… I’m kidding, check out the backdrop. I’m shooting a movie for Netflix called One Attempt Remaining that you can see when it comes out.

“I’m also on the road… which is ironic because there’s a road to WrestleMania going on, and Hollywood is close to Vegas…
“Rumour around this town is WrestleMania needs a host. Well, I’m already on that road. So I will see you at WrestleMania.”
As usual, the line-up for WrestleMania is pretty epic, with two Main Event matches in the men’s field already scheduled between CM Punk and Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship, and Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
On the stacked women’s side are matches between Stephanie Vaquer and Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship, and Jade Cargill vs Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women’s Championship.

Trick Williams and Oba Femi will also make their WrestleMania debuts against Sami Zayn and Brock Lesnar, respectively.
Plus. the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship will be contested once more as Becky Lynch aims to regain the belt from rival AJ Lee.
Finally, there’s set to be fireworks between Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre as they go head-t0-head in what’s sure to be a bloody Unsanctioned match.
There’s still more to be announced, but WWE fans are already spoiled with such an epic line-up.
