Christian Bale is best known for his roles in the Batman series, but he has set out on a project that will become an important part of his legacy. The star of The Dark Knight Rises, 52, has funded the construction of a new foster home village in Palmdale, California.
Pouring $22 million into the build alongside fellow A-list actor Leonardo Dicaprio, Welsh star Christian’s plans have been 17 years in the making. He was inspired to spearhead the project after the birth of his daughter, Emmeline, now 21, whom he shares with his wife, Sibi Blažić.

Inside Christian’s foster home project
His priority with the foster home village was creating a place where siblings could remain together. “It’s approximately 75 per cent of the time, so can you imagine the trauma of that?,” Christian told CBS Sunday Morning in 2025 of how common it is for siblings to become separated in the care system.

“Of being taken from your parents and you lose your siblings, that’s just something that we shouldn’t be doing.” Christian was not fostered or adopted himself, but he has remained steadfast in his drive to see his idea come to fruition.
“I don’t think you have to have a connection to foster care in your past, it’s just a basic understanding as a society,” he told the American broadcaster. “How can we not take care of our children? I don’t think it requires a connection, I just think it requires having a heart.”

The project is called Together California and is a place where siblings can reside in individual houses around a central garden, where they are cared for by trained foster parents. “This is what this site is about. We create a place for authentic goodness to flourish,” the American Psycho actor explained. “And it certainly impacts a child, but it impacts all of us. We create a different story of us as a society.”
Where does Christian Bale live?
While Christian’s Palmdale project is set to open later this year, the Batman Begins star personally lives approximately five hours away by car in Brentwood, California. His home reportedly features six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, as well as a private swimming pool.

He lives with his wife, a former model and stunt driver, whom he met in the 90s through Stranger Things actress Winona Ryder, for whom Sibi was working as a personal assistant while Bale was filming Little Women.
