Niners GM John Lynch ‘hopeful’ TE George Kittle (Achilles) can return for Week 1

Considering how ravaged by injuries San Francisco was with injuries last season, Lynch had plenty of return dates to update beyond Kittle.
He also told reporters he expects pass rushers Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams, both coming off torn ACLs, to be ready for training camp in some capacity, although Williams suffered his injury later in the season and could take longer to be full-go.
Left tackle Trent Williams, too, has questions regarding his return, albeit due to contract concerns rather than injury. The 12-time Pro Bowler currently has a $46.3 million cap number for 2026, a massive hurdle the sides must deal with if he’s to remain a Niner, but Lynch provided an optimistic update regarding a potential reworked contract.
“We’ve had good communication throughout,” Lynch said. “I would say in the last week it’s kind of intensified and feel like we’re on the precipice of something good happening, but we’ll see. Don’t want to make any statements that, like, ‘Hey, we’re right there,’ because these things have felt like that before, but I do feel like we’re in good communication and hopeful.”
Nothing is set in stone at this point — neither the recovery windows nor a solution to Williams’ current contract — but there appears to be positive news on all fronts for the 49ers heading into April.
