MLB All-Star Names Fenway Park As Favorite Place To Play

One of baseball’s top players loves facing the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Talkin’ Baseball’s Chris Henderson asked Bobby Witt Jr. to pick his five favorite MLB ballparks. The Kansas City Royals shortstop began by shouting out Fenway Park.
“Fenway Park is up there,” Witt said. “The top. Grew up a Red Sox fan. Amazing stadium, the history behind it.”
Witt continued to appreciate MLB’s historic venues by choosing Wrigley Field second. He then mentioned Boston’s rivals, naming Yankee Stadium third.
The two-time All-Star highlighted his Royals’ Kauffman Stadium, and the Texas native and son of former Texas Rangers pitcher concluded his list by “being back home” at Globe Life Field.
Unfortunately, Red Sox fans can’t hope to use Fenway as a recruiting tool for Witt anytime soon. Witt signed an 11-year contract extension before the 2024 season that runs through 2034 and includes club options through 2037.
There’s still a strong chance Witt will hit the open market sooner. The deal also features an opt-out clause every season after 2030, and his $35 million annual salary may pose an underpay if he keeps playing at a superstar level.
Witt finished second to Aaron Judge in the 2024 American League MVP voting after batting .332/.389/.588 with 32 home runs and 31 stolen bases. He placed fourth on last year’s ballot with a .295/.351/.501 slash line, 23 homers and 38 steals.
The Red Sox will go to Kansas City for a three-game series against the Royals from May 18-20. Witt must wait until Sept. 11 to play at Fenway Park.
