Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is reportedly not in discussions with any Saudi Arabian club, despite claims to the contrary. The Napoli lynchpin appears firmly committed to his current side amid speculation he could be on the move once more this summer.
Rumours have been swirling during the international break, with some reports indicating McTominay is attracting attention from the Saudi Pro League. However, the gossip has been brushed aside as nothing more than idle chatter.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has recently provided an update on McTominay’s intentions. And it makes for encouraging reading for Napoli supporters as Romano said the playmaker remains focused on his current club.
Antonio Conte’s outfit are currently in contention to defend their Serie A crown this season. They sit third in the table, seven points behind leaders Inter Milan with eight matches remaining.

McTominay, 29, has been outstanding since making the switch to Naples in 2024. His debut season in Italian football culminated in him being crowned Serie A’s Most Valuable Player and earning a Ballon d’Or nomination, further testament to the fact that his £25.7million fee was an absolute bargain.

He has since proved that his debut campaign was no fluke, having contributed enormously to Conte’s side once again this term. McTominay has racked up 11 goals and four assists from 36 appearances this season, fuelling speculation of another high-profile transfer.
Napoli find themselves in a difficult position, given that McTominay will soon have just two years remaining on his contract. The midfielder is due to turn 30 in December, the point at which player valuations typically begin to drop below the curve of their peak potential.

On the bright side, the Italians paid a relatively modest fee for McTominay and could therefore be tempted to run his deal down in order to extract the most from his prime years. On the flip side, they may be lured into cashing in and turning a handsome profit on a player whose value has soared thanks to his outstanding form since leaving England.
Michael Carrick, meanwhile, will kick himself that United agreed to sell his former team-mate before he took charge. The club could do with a player of McTominay’s calibre right now, with Casemiro set to depart this summer and midfield reportedly a key area for reinforcement.

While United may regret offloading the Scot overall, they at least had the foresight to insert a sell-on clause into his contract. That means they’ll be entitled to 10 per cent of any fee Napoli receive should they opt to sell.
Regardless, Napoli fans are unlikely to be ready to say goodbye to their modern-day cult hero just yet. McTominay could feature for Scotland when they take on the Ivory Coast in a friendly at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Tuesday.
