A major police response is ongoing in Speedwell as an air ambulance lands in the area

  1. An air ambulance landed in Barton Fields near Speedwell shortly before 2.30pm today (Wednesday).
  2. The helicopter later landed at Southmead Hospital.
  3. There is a major police presence in the area, with one witness on Facebook saying police had cordoned off part of New Queen Street.
  4. Bristol Brunel Academy is in a ‘precautionary lockdown’ due to the incident.
  5. In a message sent to parents, seen by BristolLive, the school wrote: “Due to an incident in the local community, we have gone into a precautionary lockdown. We will update you as soon as possible. Kind regards, BBA”.
  6. In a later message, the school said: “We are still in a precautionary lockdown following police advice. Please do not worry, this is a precaution only and we are waiting to hear further instructions. All staff and students are safe. We have been advised by police to remain in lockdown due to the incident in the local community. Staff and students remain in the Academy and we will await further updates from police.”
  7. Photos seen by BristolLive show several police cars within the cordoned area on Charlton Road, while multiple officers have been seen supporting the incident.
  8. BristolLive are aware of speculation on social media of a ‘major incident’, and we are waiting for official lines from emergency services.
