North Las Vegas police to ramp up distracted driving patrols in upcoming campaign

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — North Las Vegas Police will be conducting a targeted Distracted Driving Enforcement Campaign as part of Nevada’s statewide Joining Forces initiative.
The campaign will run from April 3 through April 20, 2026. The goal is to focus on identifying and addressing distracted driving violations to reduce crashes and improve roadway safety throughout the community.
Throughout the enforcement period, NLVPD officers will conduct high-visibility patrols and targeted traffic enforcement operations focused on drivers engaging in distracted behaviors, particularly the use of handheld electronic devices while operating a vehicle.
Officers will also take an educational approach by informing motorists about the dangers and legal consequences associated with distracted driving.
Police say distracted driving continues to be a significant factor in traffic crashes across the United States.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), distracted driving claimed 3,275 lives in 2023.
Police say activities such as texting, using a mobile device, eating, or adjusting in-vehicle technologies can take a driver’s attention away from the road, increasing the risk of serious or fatal crashes.
NLVPD continues to collaborate with regional partners through the Southern Nevada Traffic Task Force, a multi-agency initiative aimed at reducing dangerous driving behaviors across the Las Vegas Valley.
