April 1 2026 Bank Holiday Today: Banks in many states remain closed on April 1 every year for the annual closing of accounts. While customers may not be able to access branch services, online banking, ATMs and digital payment services usually continue to function as usual.

Are banks open or closed on April 1, 2026?

April 1, 2026, marks the beginning of a new financial year in India. Both public sector and private sector banks observe this closure.

Banks in most states will be closed for the yearly closing of accounts. Banks in Mizoram, Sikkim, Nagaland, Jharkhand, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh will remain open for all banking transactions.

Digital banking

ATMs, UPI, mobile banking, and internet banking all continue to operate normally, though some services, including check clearance, might take longer than expected time.

All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Banks will work on the first, third and fifth Saturdays unless specified as a holiday in the RBI calendar.
