Shoppers looking to use the Easter weekend to refill their fridges and stock up the cupboards might want to plan ahead as supermarkets will be operating different hours to usual over the weekend. As well as giving some staff a break, there are also rules about Easter Sunday trading in England and Wales which mean many large stores are required to close.
While most will be open on Good Friday (April 3) and Easter Monday (April 6), opening and closing times might vary. Many shops will be keeping smaller convenience stores running throughout the weekend, including on Easter Sunday (April 5).
Here is a list of opening hours from Good Friday through to Easter Monday at Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons.
Tesco
Tesco opening hours will vary based on store size.
Most Superstores will be open on Good Friday (April 3) and Easter Monday (April 6) with reduced hours.
While some will still be open as late as 10pm on Friday others will close as early as 5pm so it’s worth checking using the Tesco Store Locator. Most Superstores will close at 6pm on Easter Monday.
All Liverpool Superstores will be closed on Easter Sunday.
Most Tesco Express stores across the city will be open even on Easter Sunday, with some opening as early as 6am and closing as late as 11pm. Others will open later and close slightly earlier at 10pm so it’s always worth checking your local store online to be safe.
Tesco Extra on Park Road, Liverpool will be open 7am to 10pm on Good Friday, 7am to 11pm on Saturday and 8am to 6pm on Easter Monday. It will be closed on Easter Sunday.
Asda
Usual opening times vary across Asda stores customers are advised to check individual store opening times using Asda’s store locator.
However the following opening times apply to most larger Asda stores over the Easter period:
Good Friday: 7am to 10pm
Saturday: 7am to 10pm
Easter Sunday: Closed
Easter Monday: 8am to 10pm
Sainsbury’s
The vast majority of Sainsbury’s supermarkets will be open from 7am until 11pm on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. Convenience stores will be open as usual from 7am to 11pm.
On Easter Sunday, all Sainsbury’s supermarkets will be closed in the UK, apart from in Scotland where stores will open in line with Sunday trading hours. Convenience stores will be open as usual from 7am to 11pm.
On Easter bank holiday Monday, the vast majority of supermarkets will be open between 8am and 8pm. Convenience stores will be open as usual from 7am to 11pm.
Opening hours can vary though, so customers are advised to check the Sainsbury’s store locator for the latest details for their area.
Morrisons
Larger Morrisons supermarkets in England and Wales, including the branches in New Brighton, Speke and Belle Vale, will be closed on Easter Sunday.
On Good Friday, Morrisons will be open from 7am to 10pm, or the same as normal weekday hours. The same is true on Saturday.
On Easter Monday, most Morrisons shops will close earlier than usual at 8pm.
All larger supermarkets will be closed on Easter Sunday.
Most Morrisons Daily stores will be open as usual over the long-weekend including Sunday.
M&S
M&S stores will be open on Good Friday, however many will see altered hours. The store in Liverpool ONE will open earlier than normal at 8.30am and close earlier at 6pm. M&S advises checking details for your local store as timings may vary.
M&S will be open as usual on Saturday (April 4) though many stores close an hour earlier than they would on weekdays.
On Easter Sunday, the majority of M&S shops in England will be closed.
Stores in Scotland will still be open. Convenience stores across the UK will also be open.
M&S stores will be open on Easter Monday however many will see altered hours. The store in Liverpool ONE will open at the usual time of 9am but will close earlier at 6pm.
Aldi
Aldi will be open over the weekend with altered hours but will close on Sunday.
Opening hours are:
- Good Friday: 8am to 9pm
- Saturday April 4: 8am to 10pm
- Easter Sunday: Closed
- Easter Monday: 8am to 8pm
