Yorkshire Water warns of dangers of swimming in reservoirs

YORKSHIRE Water has warned of the dangers of swimming in reservoirs.
The utility company has also urged visitors to follow the Countryside Code during the Easter and Bank Holiday season.
Rangers will be present at sites across the region to provide information and encourage responsible behaviour.
Alastair Harvey, Yorkshire Water’s lead countryside and woodland advisor, said: “We have some fantastic locations in our region that provide the opportunity for people to get outside in the sunshine now that the weather is beginning to improve.
“We work hard to make the sites accessible and enjoyable for all visitors and it’s important people visiting leave the sites as they would like to find them.
“That means taking litter away, not using barbecues and parking considerately.”
Mr Harvey also reminded the public that disposable barbecues are not permitted and stressed the importance of keeping dogs on leads, especially with bird nesting season under way.
Yorkshire Water has also emphasised that swimming is not allowed at any of its reservoir sites due to safety risks such as cold water shock, hidden machinery, and strong currents.
The company has urged people to remain vigilant around the water, particularly with children, and to contact the fire service immediately in case of emergencies.
