ATP Houston Day 4 Predictions Including Learner Tien vs Nishesh Basavareddy

Americans dominate the draw of the lone clay-court ATP tournament on United States soil, and Thursday’s order of play is no different. Four seeded Americans take center stage, including 20-year-old phenom Learner Tien, squaring off against compatriot Nishesh Basavareddy. As always, we at LWOT have the preview and prediction for all Day 4 matches at ATP Houston. But who will advance?

ATP Houston Day 4 Predictions

Frances Tiafoe vs Rinky Hijikata

Head-to-Head: Tiafoe 2-1 Hijikata

No. 2 seed Frances Tiafoe begins his ATP Houston campaign against the always tough Rinky Hijikata. The 25-year-old Aussie picked up a solid win over the in-form Kovacevic in Round 1, and should be feeling good about his game after reeling off five wins in the desert last month. That said, I still don’t trust his game on clay; Hijikata has just two ATP clay-court wins in his career. Tiafoe, in front of home support, won’t let that get to three.

Prediction: Tiafoe in 2

Alex Michelsen vs Alexei Popyrin

Head-to-Head: first meeting

In many ways, Alex Michelsen and Alexei Popyrin mirror each other; tall and slender, with a live arm that lends itself to a massive serve. They can both produce moments of greatness, but also experience head-scratching dips in level. Given that, this match is truly a toss-up. Popyrin has proven to be the slightly better player on the clay, but his three-set win over Patrick Kypson in Round 1 was just his third of 2026. Michelsen, however, reached the Round of 16 in both Sunshine Double events. I’ll side with the American in good form.

Prediction: Michelsen in 3

Brandon Nakashima vs Roman Andres Burruchaga

Head-to-Head: first meeting

On paper, this looks like a matchup where Nakashima should roll. But Burruchaga is one of those clay-court specialists from South America who have dominated the Challenger Tour over the past few seasons. In fact, he has reached No. 74 in the world despite having won only seven career main-draw matches. This 24-year-old Argentine is a prime candidate to pull off a few unsuspecting upsets on the clay. However, Nakashima’s consistency from the ground and terrific serve make him almost upset-proof.

Prediction: Nakashima in 2

Learner Tien vs Nishesh Basavareddy

Head-to-Head: Tien 4-0 Basavareddy

Learner Tien and Nishesh Basavareddy know each other well. Both are 20-year-old former top-five junior players who had brief stints playing college tennis in California. Professional life has treated Tien better than his compatriot, but both have incredibly bright futures in this sport. That said, this head-to-head has been a nightmare for Basavareddy. Not only does Tien hold a 4-0 record against him, but he has also won 10 consecutive sets in those matches. Every result this season will be huge for Tien, who is my sneaky pick to reach the ATP Finals in Turin.

Prediction: Tien in 2
