Chris Davies gives double injury update ahead of Birmingham City’s final seven

Birmingham City take on Blackburn Rovers on Good Friday (3pm) before jaunting to Ipswich Town on Easter Monday (3pm)

Kai Wagner of Birmingham City

Birmingham City will still be without their left-backs over Easter weekend with Kai Wagner and Alex Cochrane weeks away from returning according to Chris Davies.

Blues haven’t fielded a recognised left-back in their last three games after Wagner injured his collarbone in the 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic a month ago.

Cochrane hasn’t played since New Year’s Day due to an ankle injury and Lee Buchanan has suffered a setback in his quest to return from a long-term knee injury.

Wagner and Cochrane are both back out on the grass at Blues’ training ground but neither are likely to return imminently.

Giving an update on the duo, Blues manager Davies said: “Kai’s doing well. He’s not quite there yet, I think he’s going to be another few weeks. It takes a little bit of time for that bone to heal fully, but he is doing light training. It’s the contact that’s the problem.

“Alex has been light training. He’s got a bit further to go because of the time he’s been out but it’s good to see him with his boots on. He’s joining in little bits of unopposed technical work and getting his fitness up.

“There’s a few hurdles he needs to get over in terms of the specialist reviews but I hope both can be with us in the final couple of weeks of the season.”
