Well, the good news is that Dr. Mohan won’t have to deal with Dr. Robby’s belittling comments any longer. Supriya Ganesh, who has played Samira Mohan on The Pitt for two seasons, will reportedly not be returning for season three. Per Variety, Ayesha Harris, who plays night-shift doctor Parker Ellis, will be promoted to a series regular in the next season.

Variety described Ganesh’s exit as a “story-driven decision”; so far, season two has seen Dr. Mohan struggling to decide where to take her career after her residency ends, with most of her colleagues nudging her toward geriatrics. Still, Ganesh’s departure — particularly paired with the simultaneous announcement of Harris’s promotion — has some fans criticizing the show for treating women of color in the cast as interchangeable.

i genuinely feel so bad for her because i remember supriya saying a while back how the way the press has been treating her and other woc makes her feel like they are interchangeable, and this announcement kind of proves how the show does as well https://t.co/Cgaim8r6k1

i don’t even go here but writing supriya ganesh out of the pitt is INSANE. and why do i feel like this style of “rotating casts” for tv series always disproportionately affect poc?

Not helping matters is the fact that last year, Tracy Ifeachor, who is Black, left The Pitt after one season. Executive producer John Wells told The Hollywood Reporter that Ifeachor’s character was written off for story-driven reasons, too. “If you’re a fourth-year resident in a teaching hospital, your time there is done at the end of that year,” he said. “Not to scare any of the other cast members, but people don’t stay at these hospitals forever. They’re going to roll off, and that will be part of the evolution of the show.” Ifeachor’s reps also described her departure as a “creative decision.”

The Cut has reached out to Ganesh and HBO for comment and will update this post if we hear back.
