Twins home opener: What to know before heading to Target Field

UPDATE: After a power outage lasting about an hour, electricity has now returned to Target Field, according to KSTP Sports reporter Chris Long.

This is a breaking news update. An earlier version of this story appears below.

Target Field is experiencing a power outage during the Twins home opener.

The Twins sent 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the following statement:

The North Loop is experiencing a power outage. Our pregame ceremonies will begin in a delay until this issue is resolved.

Xcel Energy confirmed the news, adding that 1,500 homes and businesses, including Target Field, experienced the power outage.

KSTP Sports Reporter Chris Long says none of the concessions stands are operating. The scoreboards were seen completely black.

The club comes into its home opener against the Tampa Bay Rays at 2-4 on the season, but fresh off a win over Kansas City. The game was scheduled to begin at 3:10 p.m. According to Xcel Energy’s outage map, power is estimated to be restored at 3:15 p.m.

“Their first priority will be to bring Target Field and other customers back online as soon as possible. We know losing power can be disruptive and appreciate everyone’s patience as crews complete the work,” the statement reads, in part.

Bailey Ober is scheduled to start today for the Twins against righty Joe Boyle of the Rays.

Minnesota has alternated between wins and losses in each of the past four years, and a loss last year to Cleveland means it’s time for another Twins win on Friday.

GM Jeremy Zoll talked to KSTP about what fans can look forward to this season.

What should fans know?

Festivities began with Breakfast on the Plaza from 6 to 9 a.m. Fans can pick up a complimentary breakfast, hear live music and enter giveaways for Opening Weekend tickets along Seventh Street in Minneapolis.

Target Field gates will open at 1 p.m., with first pitch set for 3:10 p.m. The first 10,000 fans through the gates will get a Twins beanie, the team says.

Also new, the Twins are running “happy hour” specials with $2 beers, hot dogs and snacks at select stands from the time gates open until first pitch.

Minnesota Twins Coverage

As for getting to the stadium, prepare for possible delays. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is still doing construction work on Interstate 94 and I-394. Check 511 before heading out.

The weather won’t be ideal for baseball, with game-time temps around 40 degrees and a breeze of 5-10 mph from the east. See the full forecast here.

However, for anyone who wants to take it all in, the Twins say tickets are still available.

First pitch is set for 3:10 p.m.

Opening Day events

Pregame ceremonies will honor Minnesota-connected Olympians and Paralympians from the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, according to the Twins, including members of the gold-medal-winning U.S. women’s hockey team and the Minnesota Frost. Ceremonial first pitches are scheduled for curler Cory Thiesse, curler Korey Dropkin and Paralympian Mike Schultz.

The Twins say Rod Carew, Tony Oliva, Kent Hrbek, Pablo López, Dan Gladden, Kirby Puckett Jr., Catherine Puckett and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey are among those set to open the gates at 1 p.m.

The national anthem will be performed by Aniya Bostick and Harriet Spencer. The American flag will be raised by retired Army Col. Eduardo Suarez, an alternate for the U.S. Olympic Shooting Team at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games who joined the Army in 1989, the Minnesota National Guard in 1993 and served 37 years for the state and country. The Twins Territory flag will be raised by Adam Hjerpe, the dedicated Board Chair of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, and his son, Steven, a Special Olympics athlete.

Easter Sunday appears to be the best weather day of the weekend.
