Mavericks’ Cooper Flagg becomes first teen to score 50 points

Cooper Flagg may have just locked up the Rookie of the Year award.

The Dallas Mavericks star became the youngest player in NBA history to score 50-plus points in a game against the Orlando Magic on Friday.

Flagg finished the contest with 51 points on 19-of-30 shooting and also contributed six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.

The 19-year-old is the first teenager in history to score 50-plus points, and just the 10th rookie to ever do it, but the third since the NBA/ABA merger (1976-77).

The previous record for the youngest to do it was Brandon Jennings in 2009, who scored 50 at 20 years, 52 days old.

This was Flagg’s second massive showing of his rookie season after he put up 49 against the Charlotte Hornets on Jan. 29.

The 2025 No. 1 overall pick was averaging 20.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals entering Friday’s contest.

Despite Flagg’s historic game, the Mavericks fell 138-127 to the Magic.
