1:30 PM Eastern
Oklahoma Sooners vs. Baylor Bears
Both teams had minimal opt-outs for this event, and both teams are similar in the way that they excel on offense and struggle on defense. Oklahoma ranks 250th in points per possession allowed, while Baylor is 233rd. Baylor has done a nice job of getting second chances to score with rebounding 35% of their missed shots, which is 17th in the nation. Oklahoma has the edge around the perimeter as they are 43rd in 3-point shooting at 36.4%, while Baylor is 148th at 34.4%. Oklahoma has been solid at not allowing good looks inside, ranking 53rd in opponent 2-point shooting percentage away from home.
Picks: Oklahoma -1 and Over 157.5
(Greg’s Handicap Oklahoma -3 and Total 159)
4:00 PM Eastern
West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Creighton Blue Jays
Creighton has been a pedestrian team this season, ranking 141st in points per possession on offense and 197th in points per possession allowed on defense. However, they have the motivation of wanting to send coach Greg McDermott out as a winner, as he is stepping down as the team’s coach after this tournament. They should be able to exploit a West Virginia defense that overall ranks 28th in points per possession allowed, but have not been the same away from home, allowing 18.9 points per 100 possessions more away from home than at home. If the game is tight, West Virginia ranks just 318th in free throw shooting percentage at 68.4%, while Creighton is 45th at 76.3%.
Picks: Creighton Moneyline and Over 134.5
(Greg’s Handicap Creighton -1 and Total 137)
6:09 PM Eastern
Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Connecticut Huskies
While Illinois leads the country in fewest throw attempts allowed to their opponents, they are also last out of 365 Division I teams in turnovers generated both per possession and per game. On offense, the team attempts 49.8% of their field goal attempts from 3-point range, which is the 15th-highest percentage in the country. Connecticut is 11th in opponent 3-point shooting percentage away from home at 29.7%.
Picks: Connecticut Moneyline and Under 139.5
(Greg’s Handicap Connecticut -1.5 and Total 137.5)
8:49 PM Eastern
Arizona Wildcats vs. Michigan Wolverines
Both teams are incredibly balanced, with Arizona eighth in points per possession on offense and sixth in points per possession allowed on defense. Michigan is fourth in points per possession on offense and eighth in points per possession allowed on defense, but Michigan has had difficulties in the turnover department, as they are 287th in turnovers per possession generated on defense. On offense, they are 158th in turnovers per offensive play, while Arizona is 43rd.
Picks: Arizona Moneyline and Under 157.5
(Greg’s Handicap Arizona -1.5 and Total 154.5)
