US-Iran tensions escalate amid uncertainty, Israel passes death penalty law, and more – India Today

The US-Iran conflict intensifies with contradictory signals from Donald Trump and his administration, leaving the war’s endgame uncertain. Trump threatens major strikes against Iran’s infrastructure, warning he will obliterate all of Iran’s electric generating plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately opened. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio insists the Strait of Hormuz will reopen one way or another, either through Iran’s compliance with international law or through a coalition effort. Iran has rejected the US 15-point plan as excessive, unrealistic, and unreasonable. A Kuwait oil tanker carrying millions of barrels of crude oil has been hit near Dubai, with officials blaming Iran. In a separate development, Israel’s Knesset passed a controversial law allowing death penalty for Palestinians convicted of deadly attacks in military courts. The law, backed by Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, has been condemned internationally as discriminatory and undermining democratic principles.
