The most sacred week on the Christian calendar is coming to an end.
In 2026, Easter Week began with Palm Sunday on March 29, and ends with the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, April 5. Easter Week also marks the end of Lent, on Holy Thursday.
Easter Monday, the day after Christ’s resurrection, is celebrated by Christians across the globe. It’s even a public holiday in over 100 countries, including Canada, the UK and most of Europe.

Easter week timeline, 2026 dates
Easter week, or Holy Week, stretches from Palm Sunday, when Jesus rode into Jerusalem, to Easter Sunday, the day he rose from the dead, according to the New Testament. In 2026, Easter week is March 29 to April 5.
- March 29: Palm Sunday. Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey and is greeted by people with palm branches, a symbol of victory.
- March 30: Holy Monday
- March 31: Holy Tuesday
- April 1: Holy Wednesday, also known as Good Wednesday, Silent Wednesday or Spy Wednesday, the latter referring to the day Judas secretly agrees to betray Jesus.
- April 2: Maundy Thursday. Jesus shares the Last Supper with his disciples and washes their feet. Also the official end of Lent.
- April 3: Good Friday. Jesus dies on the cross.
- April 4: Holy Saturday, or Black Saturday, is a day of mourning while Jesus rests in the tomb.
- April 5: Easter Sunday. Jesus rises from the dead.

Easter Monday celebrates the day after Jesus Christ’s resurrection. According to History, several countries observe Easter Monday as a public holiday.
In the third or fourth century, Christians began extending the Easter celebration, which originally ended on Easter Sunday, to eight days, per History.

- Renewal Monday
- Little Easter
- Monday of the Angels
Is Easter Monday a federal holiday?
No. Easter Monday is not recognized as a federal holiday. Federal offices and banks are open.

White House Easter Egg Roll on Easter Monday
The White House Easter Egg Roll, traditionally planned by first ladies, has been held on Easter Monday since the 1870s.
Introduced by first lady Nancy Reagan in 1981, it is now customary for guests leaving the event to receive a commemorative wooden Easter egg signed by the president and first lady.
White House Easter Egg Roll tickets are free and awarded via an online lottery.
The White House also seeks volunteers to help with the event.
What is the Easter Monday Act?
The Easter Monday Act of 2025 is a bill to amend title 5 of the United States Code to designate Easter Monday as a legal public holiday.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Missouri) was introduced in the U.S. Senate on April 10, 2025, and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee, where it still sits.
A related House bill, H.R. 2951, also named Easter Monday Act of 2025, introduced April 17, 2025, by Rep. Riley Moore (R-West Virginia) was referred to House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, where no action has yet been taken.
