Yemen : STC Condemns Deadly Events in Mukalla, Calls for Urgent Investigation
The Southern Transitional Council’s auxiliary executive body for Hadramout’s districts of Wadi and Desert strongly condemned the bloody events that took place in Mukalla on Saturday, which resulted in deaths, injuries, and the arrest of innocent civilians following excessive use of force and live fire against peaceful demonstrators.
The statement described the incident as a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of citizens’ right to peaceful expression, holding the local authorities in Hadramout and security forces fully responsible for ordering and carrying out the crackdown.
The Council demanded an urgent, transparent, and independent investigation, accountability for all those involved, and the immediate release of detainees It also urged the international community and human rights organizations to condemn the violations and act swiftly to protect civilians.
The statement stressed that the blood of the martyrs will remain a driving force for the people of Hadramout and the South to uphold their legitimate rights and defend the sovereignty of their state, reaffirming alignment behind their political leadership, represented by President Aidarous al-Zubaidi, until the aspirations of the people for full sovereignty are achieved.
