Start Time, Updates, Full Details

UPDATE: The approximate start time, according to the team, is 5:10 pm EST. Finally.

The New York Yankees are humming all along quite nicely at 7-1 to start the season. The offense has been good enough and New York’s pitching staff, thanks in part to Cam Schlittler picking up right where he left off last season, has been arguably the best in all of baseball through the first eight games of the season. With a soft match-up against the Marlins, this weekend presented an opportunity for the Yankees to stake themselves to a nice early lead in the AL East. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has her own plans.

Rain normally doesn’t cause havoc in the northeast until a little bit later in the spring as things warm up. Unfortunately, the weather this spring has been all over the place and that has led to a bunch of crummy weather in the area. There was a slim hope coming into the day that a delay could be avoided, but those hopes were dashed almost immediately as Jon Heyman reported around lunchtime that a lengthy rain delay was likely. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened.

**UPDATE 4:26 PM EST**

Our long nightmare appears to be nearly over.

Latest estimate, via Yankees, is first pitch at 5:10 https://t.co/gLqKaS0d9S

Yankees vs. Marlins Rain Delay, 4/5/26: So when exactly will this game actually start?

So, the bad news is that the rain is going to be around for a while. The forecast seems to show a 100% (or close to it) chance of rain through at least 3 PM EST. However, it is supposed to clear up a bit as we get into the late afternoon. Assuming the weather cooperates and the field isn’t completely trashed, you can bet that the teams and MLB are going to try and get this game in to avoid creating scheduling headaches later in the season.

As more information is made available about the forecast and a potential game start time, we will update this post. You might want to put on a movie and get comfortable for now, though, because we could be waiting quite a while.
