Jack White collabs with Jack Black, performs new songs on ‘SNL’

Detroit rocker Jack White was the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” on April 4, and he didn’t disappoint.

Ahead of his sixth “SNL” appearance, White released a pair of streaming singles, with limited-edition vinyl editions now on sale. He performed both songs on the show Saturday night.

Actor Jack Black was the “SNL” host. The cold open took aim at President Donald Trump’s firing of Attorney General Pam Bondi. Black’s monologue ended with a rousing rendition of “Seven Nation Army,” with White on electric guitar.

You can watch that performance below (start at the 5:20 mark if you want to skip to the song).

Later in the show, White performed.

First up was “Derecho Demonico,” one of the singles released, which Brian McCollum, Free Press music writer and critic, calls a fuzz-guitar workout that harks back to White’s earlier days.

“G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs” was up later in the broadcast. McCollum said it sounds like an extension of 2024’s “No Name” record.

Both tracks are available at White’s Third Man Records stores in Detroit, Nashville and London before hitting other record retailers next week, the Free Press reported last week.
