Luke Grimes on Kayce’s emotional journey in ‘Marshals’

Luke Grimes explains Kayce’s emotional path in “Marshals” and why the character will never sing on the “Yellowstone” spinoff.

Spoiler alert! This story includes details from Episodes 1 – 5 of CBS Network’s “Marshals.”

The “Marshals” have got a difficult case on their hands.

When Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) went to Wyoming to sell his dead wife Monica Dutton’s horse, he stumbled upon a pattern of girls missing from Broken Rock in the state. Turns out all girls were targeted and lured by a man named Noah, who revealed the girls were part of a sex-trafficking ring. As Kayce and his gang attempt to rescue the girls, the kidnappers open fire on them, eventually evading them.

However, that doesn’t deter the Marshals, who plan to “launch a dangerous op to infiltrate the gang,” according to the synopsis for the upcoming episode.

The Dutton family scion from “Yellowstone,” in the premiere episode of its CBS network spinoff “Marshals,” decided to use “his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana” as a member of an elite U.S. Marshals unit. In a climactic scene during the premiere, Kayce had told his wife Monica, who died of cancer, he’s “changing paths” and is going to join the U.S. Marshals in an attempt to “find a new beginning” for himself and their son Tate (Brecken Merrill).

“Marshals” has already been renewed at CBS for a Season 2 after it was the most-streamed CBS series premiere ever. The March 1 premiere episode was watched by 20.6 million viewers within seven days on the Paramount platforms, according to the network.
