Report: All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence requests trade from Giants

Dexter Lawrence appears ready for a change of scenery.

The All-Pro defensive tackle has requested a trade from the New York Giants and will not be participating in the team’s off-season workout program that starts Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday.

Lawrence and the Giants have been working on a new contract for the past two off-seasons, Schefter reported.

With major changes in the organization this off-season, including the hiring of head coach John Harbaugh, there was initially optimism that negotiations would progress.

Instead, Harbaugh will have to start his first team activities as the Giants’ head coach without one of his best players.

Lawrence, 28, has two years remaining on his current deal and is scheduled to make $20 million this season.

Selected by the Giants 17th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, Lawrence has spent his entire seven-year career in New York.

He made the All-Pro second team in 2022 and 2023 and is a three-time Pro Bowler.

Lawrence started all 17 games for the Giants last season and recorded 0.5 sacks, 31 tackles and one interception.
