HERSHEY, Pa. — Two Pennsylvania parents are facing charges after an incident at Hersheypark’s ZooAmerica.
According to police, their toddler put his hand into a wolf enclosure over the weekend, and was injured by the wild animal.
Carrie Sortor, 43, and Stephen Wilson, 61, are each charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
Investigators say the pair were about 25 to 30 feet away from their 17-month-old at the time of the incident, and appeared to be on their phones.
According to officials, the child squeezed through a small opening in the wooden perimeter fence and reached through the primary fence enclosure, where a wolf grabbed the child’s hand with its mouth.
Several bystanders then intervened and helped pull the child away.
The toddler suffered minor injuries.
