No. 1 Michigan defeats No. 2 UConn to capture second NCAA men’s basketball title

The No. 1 Michigan Wolverines claimed their second NCAA men’s basketball championship with a 69-63 victory over the No. 2 UConn Huskies on Monday night.
The Wolverines captured their first title since 1989 when they defeated the Seton Hall Pirates 80-79 in overtime at the Kingdome in Seattle.
Elliot Cadeau led the way for the victorious Wolverines with 19 points on 5-11 shooting.
Morez Johnson Jr. had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the winning effort and Yaxel Lendeborg scored 13 points for the champions.
The title completes a quick turn around for Michigan’s program since they finished 8-24 in 2024.
Dusty May replaced Juwan Howard as head coach and led them to a 27-10 record and an NCAA March Madness tournament appearance in 2025.
The Wolverines fell to No. 1 Auburn in the Sweet 16 in their first tournament run since 2022.
In May’s second season, Michigan posted a 36-3 record and played in the Big Ten title game ahead of earning a No. 1 seed in the tournament.
