Tennessee basketball lost a trio of players to the transfer portal Monday evening including starting guard Bishop Boswell. The 6-foot-4 guard spent two seasons at Tennessee before opting to find a new landing spot.
Boswell released a farewell statement on his Instagram Monday afternoon discussing his decision to transfer ahead of his junior season.
“First I want to thank God for giving me this wonderful like,” Boswell wrote. “This journey has been nothing short of amazing. The people I’ve met, the family I’ve gained, and the experiences have been unforgettable. Being able to spend these last two years as a Tennessee Volunteer is something I’ll cherish forever.
“I would like to thank Coach Barnes and his staff for giving me a chance to chase my dream and play the game I love in a Tennessee uniform.”
“At this time I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal. I hope you can respect this decision as it was not an easy one. Tennessee will always hold a special place in my heart. All the best.”

Boswell averaged just 6.2 points over the course of the season but showed growth on that end of the court, shooting 42.7% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range. The combo guard was a due it all guard for Tennessee, averaging 4.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
The Charlotte native’s biggest strength is his ability to do multiple things. He is a good defender and his improvement handling the basketball over the course of the season was big for Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament.
But with Tennessee looking to add more shooting to its roster next season, it made Boswell’s role less certain. While he shot a strong 38% from three-point range, Boswell made just 30 from three-point attempts over the course of the season.
Boswell was the fourth Tennessee player to announce his plans to enter the transfer portal. The list includes Cade Phillips, Clarence Massamba and J.P. Estrella. Tennessee has added one transfer already, landing Belmont sharpshooter Tyler Lundblade last week.
With eight outgoing players and four incoming players, Tennessee has four scholarships to work with as the transfer portal officially opens.
