Dallas police investigate ‘suspicious package’ downtown; major traffic delays expected

DALLAS – Police cordoned off a section of downtown Dallas Tuesday afternoon as investigators examined a “suspicious package.”

What we know:
The Dallas Police Department reported that officers investigated the item in the 900 block of Pacific Avenue, an area located near the city’s historic West End district.
Officials have not yet provided a description of the package or the specific circumstances surrounding its discovery. However, the heavy police presence prompted significant traffic disruptions throughout the downtown core.
Dallas College El Centro campus was placed on lockdown, due to the vicinity of the campus where the suspicious package was located.
The “suspicious package” being investigated was an SUV parked at the intersection. It is unclear if the suspicious package was the SUV or something inside the vehicle.
The Dallas Police bomb squad used a charge to pop the rear lift of the SUV being investigated. After the lift was opened, the bomb squad pulled a sword out of the SUV.
The all-clear was given just before 1:30 p.m. and all roadways were allowed to reopen.
Police said they will provide updates as more information becomes available. The investigation remains ongoing.
