Edmonton man accused of reselling used vehicles after removing thousands of kilometres from odometer

Edmonton police are alleging a man tricked people into thinking they were buying a vehicle that was less travelled than it actually was.
The Edmonton Police Service says a 39-year-old has been charged with fraud and uttering a forged document as a result of their investigation.
Police allege the man bought several high-mileage vehicles on Facebook Marketplace since March 2025, changed the odometer by hundreds of thousands of kilometres, and then sold the vehicles at a significantly higher price using a fake Facebook account.
The accused also allegedly provided false CARFAX reports to prospective buyers as proof of the vehicle’s mileage.
“When you are making a significant purchase like a vehicle, it is always a good idea to do your research first,” said Const. Amelia Towns with the EPS southwest patrol branch. “A CARFAX report will tell you the service history and any collisions the vehicle has been in. The small investment in this report may save you from the significant inconvenience of being scammed.”
Edmonton police were tipped off on March 13. They say they’ve identified two complainants but believe there may be many more.
They allege Harmandeep Singh Bindra may also be known under aliases such as Hary Smith, Harry Singh, Harmandeep Singh and Gurdev. Police say he primarily bought Nissan Altimas, Honda Accords and Honda CRVs.
The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
